At Amphibian Aquatics, our goal is to provide quality captive bred amphibians. Some animals are only available seasonally at this time. Please note that availability changes on a day to day basis. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Updated September 2nd, 2009.
*I'm currently trying to help someone sell two unsexed Hynobius tokyoensis. If you currently keep this species and need more for a breeding program, please feel free to e-mail me and I'll get you in touch with him. He also has a T. dobrogicus for sale.

Ambystoma laterale
Blue-spotted Salamander |
 |
 |
Blue-spotted salamanders are a smaller species of mole salamander from the northern US that grow to around 5-6 inches. They are completely terrestrial and prefer to hide under a layer of leaves or a cover object.
They're eating fruit flies, but might take chopped up earth worms held via forceps, though it'll take a bit of work to get them trained to forceps. They will eventually hand feed, and will become very personable and tame if you do this. They'll grow faster on worms too, but might not be ready for them yet; laterale morph out small. |
Availability: Many juveniles, some very large for species ~2.5-3.5 inches |
|
|
Ambystoma maculatum
Spotted Salamander |
 |
 |
Maculatum are a larger species of Ambystomid salamander, and they grow to around 7-8 inches. They're a bit more fossorial than A. laterale and will burrow into the substrate, though may also just hide under a cover object above the soil.
Like laterale, they can be trained to hand or forceps feed, and will eventually become tame for feeding time. . |
Availability: Many; ~2.5 inches |

Ambystoma opacum
Marbled Salamander |
 |
 |
Marbled salamanders are a species of mole salamander from the eastern US that grow to around 6-7 inches. They are completely terrestrial and prefer to hide under a layer of leaves or a cover object.
These are small metamorphs, born 12-14-08. They're excellent animals and will do well on fruit flies, small crickets, etc, or better on earthworm chunks.

Ambystoma talpoideum
Mole Salamander |
 |
 |
Mole salamanders are a Southern species of Ambystomid with frequent neotenic populations (gilled aquatic adults). While I can not send neotenes in the mail (they'd morph) the morphed juveniles have been staying aquatic successfully, despite the lack of gills. They can be kept aquatic or terrestrial.
Animals are around 3.5-4 inches.

Cynops ensicauda popei
Gold-dust Newt |
 |
 |
C. e. popei are a species of Japanese Cynops, reaching up to seven inches. C. ensicauda are ideal for those without basements or temperature controlled houses, as they are more tolerant of heat than other Cynops species (with a max tolerance around 80F, though cooler temperatures are recommended).
These animals are currently terrestrial, but can be kept aquatic after they reach a year or so in age.
|
Availability: ~20 terrestrial juveniles |
Price: $20 each. |
|
Cynops orientalis
Chinese Firebelly Newt |
 |
 |
C. orientalis are the typical pet store newt. Small newts from China, they're imported in very large numbers, many of which die before even reaching the end user.
These newts were captive bred in the US. They're very small, which is normal, but will reach adult size after around two years if fed properly. They currently require small food, such as Daphnia, mosquito larvae, or chopped blackworms.

Availability: A few aquatic morphs |
Price: $10 each. |

Please note: Photographs represent species and not necessarily the animals for sale. For serious enquiries, feel free to request a photograph of actual animals offered. Ages given represent time after hatching, rather than post metamorphosis.
Please see the ordering page to place an order.

Currently, Ambystoma laterale, maculatum, opacum, and talpoideum are available for bulk pricing rates.
In addition to the species we are currently offering, we are also working with a number of other species. We hope to make available many species of captive bred and captive hatched amphibians for the first time ever in the American salamander hobby, as well as provide a number of previously available animals.
Listed below are some of the species we are currently working with or intend to be working with in the immediate future. Unfortunately, captive breeding can be extremely tricky with some species, so not all of the animals listed below will be offered for sale.

* - Indicates a captive hatched species (a species raised from harvested eggs.)
Now - Indicates a life stage where we currently have animals.
Soon - Indicates that we expect to have eggs of this species soon.
Maybe - Indicates a species we are hoping to get eggs from soon.
Feel free to contact me via e-mail regarding the estimated availability of future juveniles.

We are also interested in adding to the species we're able to offer. If you have salamander species that we do not currently offer, we may be interested in buying some from you. In particular, former and current Triturus newts are high priority, as well as other species that have been captive bred in the past, or have a good potential for captive breeding. We are interested in animals at any stage of life, from egg to adult. We can pay in cash or trade.
We may also be interested in buying captive bred salamanders wholesale. PLEASE do not e-mail us with wholesale WC animals.
Specific species we are currently looking to obtain are:
CB Aneides spp.
CB Echinotriton spp.
Hynobius spp.
Lissotriton boscai, helveticus, italicus, montandoni
All Mesotriton alpestris subspecies, minus apaunus
Neurergus kaiseri or strauchii
Ommatotriton ophryticus, vittatus
Pleurodeles nebulosus, poiretti
Salamandra spp.
Taricha rivularis, sierrae, torosa
Triturus carnifex
All Tylototriton, minus shanjing
Melanophryniscus stelzneri (Bumble bee toads)
We're interested in any stage of life, from egg to adult. We'll also enterain other offers. No illegal or illegally acquired animals, please!
